Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the religious chief of Anglicans worldwide and the top of the Church of England, will full his official duties by January 6, after saying final week that he would give up over an abuse scandal.

Welby resigned after a report discovered that he had taken inadequate motion to convey to justice one of many church’s most prolific serial abusers – a British lawyer who subjected greater than 100 boys and younger males to “brutal and horrific” bodily and sexual abuse over a 40-year interval.

Lambeth Palace stated in a press release on Wednesday that Welby meant to finish his official duties by the upcoming Feast of Epiphany, on Jan. 6.
