The U.S.-allied Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) stated 5 of its fighters had been killed on Saturday in assaults by Turkish-backed forces on the town of Manbij in northern Syria.
Preventing in Manbij broke out after Bashar al-Assad was toppled almost two weeks in the past, with Turkey and the Syrian armed teams it helps seizing management of the town from the Kurdish-led SDF on Dec. 9.
The SDF, an ally within the U.S. coalition towards Islamic State militants, is spearheaded by the YPG – a bunch that Ankara sees as an extension of the Kurdistan Employees Celebration (PKK) militants who’ve fought the Turkish state for 40 years.
Turkey regards the PKK, YPG and SDF as terrorist teams.
