The primary reactions to Disney‘s “Mufasa: The Lion King” have began pouring in on social media, and members of the press are roaring with pleasure over the prequel to the 2019 photorealistic remake of “The Lion King.”
“‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ is the proper prequel,” wrote Selection‘s senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay. “So superbly crafted. The songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Nicholas Britell’s rating are completely divine and music to the ears. Pure pleasure.”
Movie Unbiased author Dana Abercrombie praised the movie as “a narrative that deserves to be advised that makes you query what’s future. Expertly written & crafted, it provides to ‘The Lion King’ franchise by including extra dimension to the characters we love & thought we knew. The visible results are astounding.”
ComicBook.com’s Chris Killian admitted that “a ‘Lion King’ prequel was not one thing I used to be asking for, however the animation is unbelievable, the songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda are infectious, and the vocal performances make ‘Mufasa’ – dare I say – higher than the 2019 model of ‘Lion King.’”
Cinefied movie critic Dempsey Pillot wrote, “Happy to say ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ is actually good! However what else would you count on from Barry Jenkins? A biblical exploration of future brilliantly disguised as an origin story for Mufasa and Scar. Entertaining, visually beautiful, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s music didn’t disappoint!”
Directed by Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”), “Mufasa” explores the early years of the eventual ruler of Pleasure Rock, together with how he and Scar (whose actual title is Taka) meet and transition from associates to enemies.
Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. lead the voice expertise because the youthful variations of Mufasa and Scar, respectively. Different new voices embody Blue Ivy Carter as Kiara, daughter of Simba (Donald Glover) and Nala (Beyoncé Knowles-Carter); Tiffany Boone as Sarabi; Kagiso Lediga as Younger Rafiki; Preston Nyman as Zazu; Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros, a formidable lion with massive plans for his satisfaction; Thandiwe Newton as Taka’s mom, Eshe; Lennie James as Taka’s father, Obasi; Anika Noni Rose as Mufasa’s mom, Afia; and Keith David as Mufasa’s father, Masego. Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter reprise their roles from the “The Lion King” remake.
Lin-Manuel Miranda penned the movie’s songs, produced by himself and Mark Mancina, with further music and performances by Lebo M.
