Amplify has acquired the worldwide and U.S. gross sales rights to “Obex” forward of its world premiere on the 2025 Sundance Movie Competition. Directed by and starring “Sylvio” and “Strawberry Mansion” filmmaker Albert Birney, “Obex” is a black and white fantasy movie that marks Birney’s first live-action directorial effort.
Written by Birney and Pete Ohs, the movie follows Connor Marsh (Birney), a person residing in seclusion together with his canine Sandy. In the future he begins enjoying the titular Obex, a state-of-the-art pc recreation. When Sandy goes lacking, the road between actuality and the sport blurs and Conor should enterprise into the
unusual world of Obex to carry her dwelling.
“[This] is a surreal and fantastical journey by time and area — a wild trip full of
wonders, surprising characters, and thrills alongside the way in which,” stated Amplify SVP tof International Gross sales
Lorna Lee. “We’re extremely excited to champion the heart-forward, humorous and imaginative
cinema of Albert Birney.”
Along with directing six movies, Birney served as an animator on “We’re All Going to the World’s Honest” and acted in “I Noticed the TV Glow,” each from director Jane Schoenbrun.

The challenge is produced by James Belfer for Cartuna, marking the corporate’s third collaboration with Birney following “Sylvio” and “Strawberry Mansion.” Leyline can even produce, with Birney, Emma Hannaway and screenwriter Pete Ohs serving as extra producers.
The movie stars Birney, Callie Hernandez, and Frank Mosley.
